Cicero Intelligent Minds, Inc. is a New York-based technology company dedicated to transforming the practice of law through intelligent software. Founded by attorneys and technologists who understand the unique challenges of legal work, we build tools that enhance rather than replace the expertise of legal professionals.
Our team combines decades of legal practice experience with cutting-edge expertise in artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and software engineering. We have worked at major law firms, in-house legal departments, and leading technology companies. This unique blend of perspectives allows us to create tools that truly understand the needs of legal professionals.
Cicero was born from frustration. Our founding attorneys spent countless hours on document formatting, citation checking, and version control—tasks that drained time from substantive legal analysis. Existing tools were either too generic to understand legal work or too rigid to adapt to different practice styles.
We knew there had to be a better way. Drawing on advances in artificial intelligence and deep learning, we set out to build a text editor that truly understands legal writing. Not just a word processor with legal templates, but an intelligent assistant that comprehends legal concepts, citation formats, and document structures.
After two years of development and testing with attorneys across multiple practice areas, we launched Cicero Editor. Today, we serve thousands of legal professionals from solo practitioners to large law firms, helping them reclaim valuable time and focus on what they do best: practicing law.
We believe that attorneys should spend their time thinking, not formatting. Our mission is to eliminate the tedious, repetitive tasks that consume valuable hours and allow legal professionals to focus on what matters most: providing exceptional counsel to their clients.
We envision a future where technology handles the mechanical aspects of legal document production, freeing attorneys to focus on strategy, analysis, and client relationships. Where junior associates spend less time on citation formatting and more time developing legal skills. Where solo practitioners have access to tools previously available only to large firms.
This vision drives everything we do. Every feature we build, every decision we make, is evaluated against this simple question: Does this help attorneys practice better law?
At the heart of our platform is the Cicero Editor, a purpose-built text editor designed specifically for attorneys. Unlike generic word processors, Cicero Editor understands legal writing conventions, citation formats, and document structures. It assists with drafting, editing, and formatting legal documents while maintaining the precision and control that attorneys demand.
From contract negotiation to litigation briefs, from memoranda to client correspondence, the Cicero Editor adapts to your workflow and learns your preferences. It handles the mechanics of document creation so you can focus on the substance of your arguments.
We build our technology with three core principles:
Cicero Editor leverages state-of-the-art natural language processing and machine learning to understand legal text. Our proprietary models are trained on millions of legal documents, enabling the system to recognize legal concepts, understand document structure, and provide contextually appropriate suggestions.
Unlike general-purpose AI tools, our technology is purpose-built for legal work. It understands the difference between a motion to dismiss and a motion for summary judgment. It knows that citation formats vary by jurisdiction. It recognizes when you are drafting a contract versus writing a brief.
We invest heavily in research and development, continuously improving our models and expanding capabilities. Our engineering team publishes research on legal AI, contributes to open-source projects, and collaborates with leading academic institutions to advance the field of legal technology.
Operating from New York, the legal capital of the world, we work alongside the attorneys and firms we serve. Our proximity to the legal community informs every feature we build and every decision we make.
We regularly engage with bar associations, legal aid organizations, and law schools. We provide discounted or free access to public interest attorneys and legal aid organizations. We sponsor CLE programs and contribute to legal education initiatives.
Our commitment extends beyond our product. We believe in supporting the legal profession and contributing to access to justice. A portion of our revenue supports pro bono legal services and legal aid organizations.
We understand that attorneys handle highly sensitive information. Client confidentiality is not just an ethical obligation—it is the foundation of the attorney-client relationship. Our security infrastructure reflects this reality.
We maintain SOC 2 Type II certification, demonstrating our commitment to security, availability, and confidentiality. All data is encrypted both in transit and at rest using industry-standard protocols. We undergo regular third-party security audits and penetration testing.
We comply with major data protection regulations including GDPR, CCPA, and the New York SHIELD Act. Our data handling practices are designed to meet or exceed the requirements for attorney client confidentiality in every jurisdiction where we operate.
Importantly, we never use customer documents to train our AI models. Your documents remain yours. We do not share them, sell them, or use them for any purpose other than providing our services to you.
The legal profession is evolving, and technology will play an increasingly important role. But technology should serve the profession, not the other way around. Our goal is to build tools that respect the expertise of attorneys while making their work more efficient and effective.
We are constantly developing new features and capabilities based on feedback from our users. Our roadmap includes enhanced research integration, expanded template libraries, improved collaboration tools, and deeper practice management integration.
But our core mission remains unchanged: to build the best tools for legal professionals, to earn and maintain the trust of the attorneys who use our software, and to contribute positively to the practice of law and the administration of justice.
